Avalon's beaches are wide and clean, and the one at the end of 24th Street is a short, flat walk from the houses. Here's what to know before you go.
24th Street is one of Avalon's guarded beaches in season, so it's a convenient, safe spot to base yourself for the day. Each 24 Ocean home comes with ten beach chairs, so you can head straight over.
Anyone 12 and older needs a beach tag in season; children under 12 are free. Avalon tags are also honored on Stone Harbor's beaches, and vice versa, since the two towns share the island. Recent seasons have run roughly $40 for a season tag, about $18 weekly, and around $10 daily — please confirm current prices with Avalon Recreation before you go, as they change year to year. Tags are sold at the Community Hall booth on 30th Street and by the roving beach-tag inspectors on the sand.
Lifeguards are typically on duty from about 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. The number of guarded beaches can be reduced later in the season, so it's worth checking which entrances are staffed toward the end of August.
